Meet our vets, who will care for your pets as if they were their own

Dr. Jason - Director & Veterinarian

As one of the directors, along with being a veterinarian I specialise in being part time dad joke expert as well!

I have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Melbourne, I graduated in 2000 back when the dinosaurs roamed… my main role being that of a vet, but I am also one of the managers which is easy… as I have a wonderful team!

The most challenging thing about being a vet is not having answers all of the time. Fortunately, we have such a wide range of skills amongst our team, so there is always another brain to bounce off!

I absolutely love the relationships that I form with my clients and their loved pets. Trust is earned, and I really relish the opportunity to gain that trust and I feel so lucky to be working with such a wonderful, diverse and capable team around me. I think that shines through to the clients as well.

Selena – Director & Veterinarian Technician

I have owned the Clinic with Jason since October 2016 and been a part of the furniture in the building for a long time before that. As the Owner I am actively involved in the smooth day-to-day operations, supporting our team ensuring our high standards of care, oh, and I nearly forgot - heaps of paperwork. I have a Bachelor of Science Veterinary Technician which is a degree that equips me with advanced theoretical and practical skills to work as a Veterinary Technologist and let’s just say I now have over 20 years’ experience in the industry.

After being hands on clinically back of house for so many years, lately I find myself sitting at reception assisting our wonderful clients and their pets. I find deep fulfillment in cultivating strong client relationships and witnessing the enduring bond between people and their pets. I am especially proud of watching our team thrive and try to provide the support they each need to grow professionally. Outside the clinic, I am a devoted “Mumma” to three spirited daughters, if I am not at the clinic, you will find me being Mums taxi shuttling them to dance classes, gym trainings, and performances multiple times a week.

Dr. Lachlan - Veterinarian

I enjoy working up both medical and surgical cases in the clinic. With a special interest in ultrasonography and managing emergency/critical conditions. The team is very supportive of staff exploring and bringing new skills and approaches to the ever-evolving veterinary profession.

Graduating in 2011 from James Cook University I started my veterinary career working in a mixed practice in the Whitsundays for three years. Following my interest in emergency medicine I moved to Brisbane, working for one of the larger emergency and critical care hospitals that worked alongside specialists. Gaining invaluable experience in this area as well as obtaining my Memberships in Emergency and Critical care in 2011 - BVSc, MANZCVS (Emergency and Critical Care). After nearly a decade in this field my family and I decided it was time to move back to the tropics of Cairns, where we both grew up.

I enjoy having an active lifestyle including running around with my young son, going to the gym, diving, swimming and outdoor activities. Also, a big fan of sharing a good meal, a few drinks and good stories with family and friends.

Dr. Katja - Veterinarian

Since 2017 I have been one of the veterinarians at Edmonton Veterinary Clinic being involved in consultations for a variety of pets as well as performing surgeries and taking care of our hospital patients.

I have been working as a veterinarian in general mixed practice since 2014. My first 3 years of practice were spent in a mixed practice in Namibia working with dogs, cats, horses and the occasional African wild animal.

Continuing my career In Cairns, I have been at Edmonton Veterinary Clinic working with small animals like dogs, cats and the occasional birds, pocket pets and wildlife. I love interacting with my patients and never knowing what the day will bring. I find it most challenging to know how to balance the needs of our patients, their owners and what is achievable and realistic in each situation.

Animals and the outdoors are my joy and I am privileged and grateful to be able to work with this team that brings me peace and joy in life.

Dr. Sabrina - Veterinarian

Sabrina grew up in Western Australia where she developed a love for animals on her family olive farm in Gingin. She spent her teenage years working with horses in the racing industry and in 2021, graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Murdoch University.

After graduating, Sabrina moved to Brisbane to work in an emergency clinic where she gained experience in caring for critically ill patients and became RECOVER (Basic and Advanced Life Support) certified. She then went on to complete an internship in Small Animal Internal Medicine focusing on complex medical cases and advanced diagnostics at a specialist referral hospital. Sabrina has recently moved to Cairns and enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine with a particular focus on improving the health and quality of life of our senior patients.

On the weekends, she enjoys getting out and exploring the rainforest and reef.

Jana - Veterinary Nurse

I joined this fantastic team in 2023 and being a New Zealand certified Vet Nurse, I am currently studying for the Australian Cert IV in Vet Nursing and am actively involved in the care of all our patients at the clinic and being an IT geek and guru I am also involved with our data base maintenance. Certified overseas in 2011, Vet nursing in Australia for 6 years but worked in other animal based, mainly research roles prior.

I have a caring attitude and I love helping all our pet owners to navigate the information pertaining to their pets ensuring that, when combined with the professional care form our vets, both pet and owner are satisfied…and, what the heck, I also love being part of this fun and friendly and loving team who have each other's backs.

I have one cat, Mya and two dogs, Jack and Zsa Zsa. French Bulldogs and Boxers which happen to be my favourite breeds. I have been heavily involved in animal rescue for the last 10 years as well, but currently taking a much-needed break.

Stephanie - Veterinary Nurse

Possessing a Certificate 4 Veterinary Nursing, my roles are in the surgical field, diagnostics and hospital procedures. I also share our clinic’s experiences on Facebook.

I started in February 2009 as a trainee, which enabled me to develop the required passion, which led me to the commencement of my studies to qualify, and I have been here since.

I have seen the veterinary industry, medicine change and evolve. I have enjoyed working with many families and their pets. I have a special interest in emergency medicine, surgical procedures and exotic pets. I enjoy working with the small, scaley creatures to the large and drooly.

I love to offer high surgical standards and anaesthesia for your pets. I also love to be the nurse who looks after your pets when they are unwell in the hospital when they most need someone to lean on. The clinic here is very supportive, the team are wonderful, everyone thrives in their areas of interest.

Kayley - Veterinary Nurse

Having completed my Certificate III in Companion Animal Services I then graduated with my Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing in 2018. I’ve also completed a Stress Free Veterinary Professional certification and have continued to gain experiences in private practices, pet shelters and rescues.

Joining this professional team in 2024 my key roles depending on the day, can range from surgical nursing, inpatient hospital care and monitoring, offering support and advice to clients, running diagnostics, liaising with other team members to ensure top-tier patient care, as well as supporting the treating veterinarian and helping them carry out their treatment plans.

My favourite duty of all time is offering cuddles and a safe space for our patients.

Learning and growing every day - there’s always more to learn and keeping up with new innovations in veterinary medicine. My passion is the care wildlife, animal welfare and care of senior/geriatric animals and live by the motto of “You can’t change the whole world, but you can change the whole world for that one animal”.

Telia - Veterinary Nurse

For the past 4 years, I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the amazing team at Edmonton Veterinary Clinic as a qualified Veterinary Nurse and I hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Bringing 8 years of experience (which basically means I’ve spent most of my adult life covered in fur, slobber, and the occasional mystery stain).

I spend my days helping our vets with surgeries, running diagnostics, and making sure every patient gets the best care. I especially love surgical nursing; no two days are ever the same, and I’ve worked with many animals from family pets to the more unusual patients like snakes and echidnas.
One of my biggest passions is hand-rearing puppies and kittens. It’s basically like being a full-time Mum with no sleep and a side of eye bags, but the pay-off is watching those little ones grow into strong, healthy pets.

And yes, full disclosure, I’m a total Staffy lover. If you bring in a Staffy, don’t be surprised if I swoop in for a cuddle before we even start talking about their check-up.

At the end of the day, I love problem-solving, learning new things, and most of all, being part of the special bond between pets and their people.

Judy - Veterinary Nurse

Possessing a Certificate 4 Veterinary Nursing I have been nursing for 27 years. I previously worked at a clinic for 24 years as a nurse and practice manager and now with the team at Edmonton Vets I love being part of the team—it's a professional, supportive, and caring environment.

I’m actively involved in surgical and anaesthesia procedures, as well as caring for our hospital patients. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is shadowing the vets during consults—being right there to assist with patients and learn alongside them keeps me inspired and engaged every day.

Honestly, I love everything about it. No two days are ever the same, and that constant variety keeps me energised. I get to work closely with a brilliant team, help animals in need, and continue growing in my profession every single day. Outside of work, I love to travel and enjoy experiences. My other passions are music, singing, playing drums and guitar.

Lisa – Trainee Veterinary Nurse

Having completed a Certificate 3 in animal studies I am currently studying Certificate 4 in Veterinary nursing I am actively involved since 2019 in all nursing aspects in the hospital, surgical and administration sectors.

Pets are my passion and it brings me absolute delight to be actively involved with all the professionals at the Edmonton Veterinary Clinic.

I thrive being involved with specialised treatments including caesarean surgery for puppies, in fact anything with puppies and behaviour for all dogs.

Spare time consists of family time with my husband and three daughters. Dog shows with my Bull Terrier Miniatures and American Staffords. Horse riding and swimming at the creek.

Kayla-May - Trainee Veterinary Nurse

I am a trainee veterinary nurse at Edmonton Vet Clinic and Cattery, currently working towards my Certificate III in Animal Care and Studies.

Over the past two years, I’ve gained hands-on experience in various aspects of veterinary nursing, including surgical and hospital care, shadowing veterinarians, and providing support to my colleagues whenever needed.

My key responsibilities involve assisting in surgery and hospital procedures, ensuring patient care, and contributing to the smooth operation of the clinic.

Through my training and daily work, I’ve developed a strong understanding of the needs of different animals and the vital role vet nurses play in their care.

I’m passionate about working with animals and committed to helping them live healthy, happy lives. In my free time I love going fishing, camping, going to rodeos and spending time with my loved ones.

Summer - Trainee Vet Nurse

I am currently enrolled in a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and have completed a Certificate II in Animal Care.

Since joining with Jason, Selena and the team in January 2024, my key roles in clinic are assisting in patient care and handling, assisting in diagnostic testing, carrying out reception duties and helping to maintain a clean and hygienic clinic.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of being a trainee, from seeing animals recover and return home happy and healthy to seeing patients come in daily for general checkups.

With pets being my passion the most challenging part about being a trainee nurse is dealing with all the emotional challenges.

The things I love about my position is the ability to lean and do new things and put my training into real life practices. Outside of work you will find me gardening and swimming.

Jess - Administration & Float Nurse

From a young age, I knew I wanted a career focused on animal care and in 2005, I began my first role as a veterinary nursing trainee. I was fortunate to receive on-the-job training and learn from a compassionate and experienced team of vets and nurses who greatly influenced my career.

I’ve worked in various roles including a Customer Service Officer at RSPCA animal hospital and shelters, and various veterinary nursing care roles.

I ensure that our clients and their cherished pets feel welcome, comfortable and cared for during every visit with my focus has always been on providing compassionate support.

The most rewarding aspect of my role is working alongside such an incredible team. Their dedication to animal care is truly inspiring, and it's a privilege to collaborate with such amazing professionals.

Ooooh… and the puppies! My family share our lives with Kora, a goofy, lovable 4-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, and Moose, my dashing tuxedo cat who definitely thinks he runs the house.

Bella - Kennel Hand

Meet Elliot – Our Feathered Front Desk Diva

If you hear a dramatic squawk, a suspicious “Huh?” or an enthusiastic “Ooooh!”, you’ve just encountered Elliot—our resident Alexandrine parrot and self-declared ruler of the reception desk.

Elliot isn’t just a stunning splash of green feathers and regal red beak—he’s the cheekiest member of the team. Perched like royalty at the front counter, he oversees daily operations with flair, flaps, and a healthy dose of attitude. Ignore him for too long and you’ll be treated to a squawk that could wake the entire waiting room.

Job Title:

  • Official Greeter (with side-eye)
  • Snack Quality Control
  • Winged Supervisor of Attention Distribution

Special Skills:

  • Dramatic wing flaps when someone else gets attention
  • Strutting across counters like he owns the place (he does)
  • Expressive head tilts that say “I’m judging you”

Elliot may not speak in full sentences, but he communicates volumes with his squawks, stares, and occasional “Ooooh!” when something truly impresses him (usually himself). Come say hi—but be warned: if you don’t acknowledge him, he’ll acknowledge you. Loudly.
